Cosmological Waveguides for Gravitational Waves

چکیده

We study the linearized equations describing the propagation of gravitational waves through dust. In the leading order of the WKB approximation, dust behaves as a nondispersive, non-dissipative medium. Taking advantage of these features, we explore the possibility that a gravitational wave from a distant source gets trapped by the gravitational field of a long filament of galaxies of the kind seen in the large scale structure of the Universe. Such a waveguiding effect may lead to a huge magnification of the radiation flux from distant sources, thus lowering the sensitivity threshold required for a successful detection of gravitational waves by detectors like VIRGO, LIGO and LISA. Dark Energy and Inflation from Gravitational Waves

In this seven-part paper, we show that gravitational waves (classical and quantum) produce the accelerated de Sitter expansion at the start and at the end of the cosmological evolution of the Universe. In these periods, the Universe contains no matter fields but contains classical and quantum metric fluctuations, i.e., it is filled with classical and quantum gravitational waves. In such evoluti...

A New Approach to Quasars and Twins by Cosmological Waveguides

Gravitational lensing is today a fundamental tool to investigate the large scale structures of the universe and to test cosmological models. One of the most interesting characteristics of it is that it acts on all scales and provides a great amount of cosmological and astrophysical applications. Particularly promising are the multiply macro–imaged quasars whose lensing galaxy should have a larg...

Evolution of gravitational waves through the cosmological QCD transition

The spectrum of gravitational waves that have been produced in inflation is modified during cosmological transitions. Large drops in the number of relativistic particles, like during the QCD transition or at ee annihilation, lead to steps in the spectrum of gravitational waves. We calculate the transfer function for the differential energy density of gravitational waves for a first-order and fo...

Gravitational Waves from a Cosmological Distribution of Sources

The advent of gravitational wave detectors such as the Laser Interferometer Space Antenna and the Advanced-Laser Interferometer Gravitational wave Observatory will make it possible to observe many gravitational wave emission phenomena that may or may not have electromagnetic counterparts. In many cases, gravitational waves serve as probes of length and time scales that range many orders of magn...

Damping of Gravitational Waves and Density Perturbations in the Early Universe

Since the discovery of the large angular scale anisotropies in the microwave background radiation, the behaviour of cosmological perturbations (especially, density perturbations and gravitational waves) has been of great interest. In this study, after a detailed and rigorous treatment of the behaviour of gravitational waves in viscous cosmic media, we conclude that the damping of cosmological g...
